School of Movement Medicine

Apprenticeship Programme

2025

with David Mooney

In the Movement Medicine Apprenticeship Programme, our intention is to provide such an environment to enable you to reach your full potential. In the context of this, you will be supported to find a healthy balance between accepting and being who you are, and continuing your evolution towards becoming all that you can be, making your contribution to the world and realising your dreams. This happens through a deep immersion in Movement Medicine practice and the support of a strong staff team and circle of peers. Ultimately, the Apprenticeship Programme is a journey towards deepening your own medicine, creativity and offering in the world. Your expanding self-knowledge and healing are part of this.

During the programme, our work will take us on a journey of embodiment through Movement Medicine practice using the teachings of the Movement Medicine Mandala as our guide. Individual feedback is essential to help each of us make conscious, and then work with, our own blind spots. Therefore, we and our small team of experienced staff will work with you individually to get a clear sense of where you are in your life, help you to establish focus, direction and intention, and, together, generate a dynamic, practical and tailor-made programme for your apprenticeship. This Apprenticeship will also include the basics of voicework.

THIS PROGRAMME IS FOR PARTICIPANTS WHO:

  • want to integrate the practice, philosophy and application of Movement Medicine as ‘medicine for our times’

  • want to make a difference in the world and walk their talk in all areas of life

  • have the intention to embody who they are in all aspects of their lives

  • want to work in an atmosphere of support, challenge and kindness to self and others

  • have a sense of humour about themselves and yet are serious about what they want to create in this life

  • For those who want to access the Teacher training to train to use the principles and practices of Movement Medicine in their work (Application to the Teacher Training program with Ya’Acov and Susannah is only available to those who complete the Apprenticeship Program)

  • want to join the community of Movement Medicine Practitioners.

AFTER COMPLETING THE APPRENTICESHIP, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:

  • continue onto the two-module Professional Training.

  • continue as a practitioner within the Apprenticeship community by attending events for Apprentices.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The Apprenticeship consists of four core modules with David and Yasia.

Nine mentoring sessions in total are also included in the programme, this includes a session with David and Yasia both at the start and on completion of the Apprenticeship program.

MENTORING: The Apprenticeship also includes nine individual Zoom online coaching/mentoring sessions with staff members, including

two one to one session with David at the beginning of your Apprenticeship

5 one to one sessions with your Apprenticeship mentor during the Apprenticeship

two one to one session with David towards the end of your Apprenticeship

Commitment to the whole programme is essential.

PREPARING FOR THE APPRENTICESHIP

We consider that your apprenticeship begins at the moment you make a commitment to study on that level. The Apprenticeship Programme is where we all recognise that commitment and start to work on a deeper level. To get the most out of your apprenticeship, it is important to feel adequately prepared. Below we outline the minimum prerequisites for the Apprenticeship Programme, as well as recommendations for further preparation. Please feel free to apply if you are still missing a few courses but plan to complete them before the course begins.

PREREQUISITES:

  1. 175 hours of conscious dance practice*

  2. One Phoenix Retreat or Phoenix Rising intensive workshops.

  3. Initiation – An odyssey through the nine life cycles.

  4. Summer Long Dance before or during your AP or within 18 months of the start of your AP

* Of this, a maximum of 75 hours can include related conscious dance practice, such as Open Floor, Tamalpa Institute, the Amerta work of Suprapto Suryadarmo, 5Rhythms and Soul Motion. The remaining 100 hours must be Movement Medicine practice, of which at least 75 hours must be with a qualified Movement Medicine Teacher (or Ya’Acov or Susannah). Of these 75 hours, at least 25 hours must be in School of Movement Medicine workshops (with the founders Ya’Acov, Susannah, or David and Yasia).

FURTHER PREPARATION: The prerequisites listed above are a minimum. We encourage those wishing to apply for the Apprenticeship to dance deeply with Movement Medicine as much and as frequently as possible. As well as attending classes and weekend workshops, we particularly recommend that you attend Returning Home, Phoenix Rising, the Summer Long Dance or any other intensives you feel drawn to.
